How To Reduce Your Stress Levels Immediately
“So how’s the new business going?”
“It’s going well. A lot of work and long hours. It’s hard trying to juggle everything… still trying to figure out the whole work-life-balance thing but I’m sure it’ll sort it’s self out eventually. It’ll be worth it in the end.”
I wish I had £1 for every time I’d heard that! Well you can forget it because it will never happen, never in million years, so just STOP IT.
STOP IT! - STOP trying to be all things to all people - STOP trying to give 100% of yourself to your job and your family and your friends and to whatever or whoever it is - just STOP IT! STOP putting yourself under so much pressure!
You want to know why?
Because there is only one of you and you only have 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week and 365 days in a year.
You, as a person in your 24 hour day = 100%
Here is a beautiful cake, (yes we love cake!). You can not hand out more cake than what is there, (unfortunately cause that is truly a beautiful cake!) You can not give more than 100% of you to the all of the many facets that make up your life.
Something has to give and it shouldn't be your health and your life that suffers!
Those areas of your life that are stressing you out and pulling you in all directions need you to be in tip-top shape, or they might not need you as much as you think, or they might actually want you to pursue more happiness in your life. When was the last time you stopped to take a breath and evaluate?
Goal setting is an extremely useful tool to help focus and evaluate life choices and situations for the future. The future can be tomorrow, next month, next year or five years from now.
You may decide upon one main goal to reach in 5 or 10 years time and have a dozen of more in between. If you’re not clear about your goals and if they’re in any way vague or have any obscurity around them, it’s highly unlikely you’ll ever get where you want to go.
You may really, really want that promotion or a particular car or to be 3 clothes sizes smaller and it's frustrating you and making you feel anxious and stressed because you can't seem to fit everything in to get to where you want to be.... stop ... and plan.
Determine what you want.
What would it take to get it?
How much money will be needed? - Where will it come from?
When do you want it by? How much time will you need to commit each day/week/month?
Who or what in your life will be affected by this commitment? Who will get the cake crumbs? Are they/you prepared to make that sacrifice?
Most people confuse hopes and dreams with actual goals. And the fact of the matter is, the majority of those who do set goals, simply don’t achieve them. Take into consideration all the New Years resolutions that fail…
It’s estimated that less than 10% of people actually achieve their goals – shocking!
And that’s largely due to the fact that there’s been no planning, no real thought on how they're actually going to achieve them and little or no action is taken towards getting them. They’re expected to appear as if by magic!
By taking control of your path, stress will be reduced dramatically. If you know where you want to go or where you want to be next month, next year, in 5 years – AND you have a map of how to get there, won’t that reduce your stress levels immediately because you now know it is possible, that you know what the next step is to take?
Happiness in life is a journey, not a destination. Enjoy the ride!
